Open Arms Theologies
In honor of the ten year anniversary of our church beginning, a group from the church has written an published a book of essays reflecting on our hopes for the future church. It is amazing that in our small congregation there are at least 16 people who have Master of Divinity degrees from seminary. These individuals along with a few others who have had significant professional experience in faith communities were each asked to write an essay. The result is a beautiful, fascinating collection of reflections on faith in our time.
This book would be an excellent resource for any church or group to use as a discussion guide for discerning God's calling to become more inclusive and diverse in ministry. The book does not intend to suggest that our congregation is a model for other churches. We do not think of ourselves as "the church that is needed" in the future. Rather, we are challenging ourselves and supporting each other in listening to God's calling to become what is needed.
